Description

The Terrex 3 is the latest variant in the Terrex 8x8 APC (Armoured Personnel Carrier) family designed and manufactured by ST Kinetics of Singapore mainly for export requirements. This version offers more volume, payload, and protection. A scale model of the vehicle was unveiled during the edition 2016 of Eurosatory International Defense Exhibition in Paris, France and it was shown for the first time during the DVD event in September 2016. The Terrex 3 has a weight of 35 tons, five tons more than the Terrex 2 but offering more payload. The vehicle is also one of the candidates for the Land 400 program for the Australian Army under the name of Sentinel 2, a joint project led by Elbit Systems of Australia.

Variants:

- Terrex 1: The first version of the vehicle with a gross vehicle weight of 24,000 kg was unveiled at the DSEi Defense Exhibition held in London late in 2001.
- Terrex 2: The Terrex 2 is an improved variant of the Terrex 1 8x8 armored vehicle personnel carrier designed and manufactured by ST Kinetics of Singapore. The Terrex 2 was unveiled for the first time at DSEI, the International Defense Exhibition in September 2015.
- Sentinel 2: developed jointly ST Kinetics of Singapore and Elbit Systems Australia to meet the Australian Land 400 Phase 2 requirement but was not shortlisted by the Australian Army.

Armament

The Terrex 3 APC is fitted with a remote-controlled turret armed with one 30mm automatic cannon and one 7.62mm coaxial machine gun mounted on the left side of the main armament. Two launchers for anti-tank guided missiles are mounted on the right side of the turret. Four smoke grenade launchers are mounted on each side of the turret.

Design and protection

The layout of the Terrex 3 is similar to the previous version of the Terrex with the driver is seated at the front of the vehicle on the left side with the power pack to his right, the turret in the center of the hull and the troop's compartment at the rear. It can carry a total of 13 military personnel including driver and commander. The rear part of the hull is fitted with a large power-operated ramp allowing the troops to leave and enter quickly in the vehicle. The ramp is also provided with an integral door. The hull of the Terrex 3 is of all-welded steel armour construction fitted with a modular armor package to increase protection against modern anti-tank missiles and 25 mm and 30 mm ammunitions.

Mobility

The Terrex 3 will use all the powerpack and 8x8 suspension components of Terrex 2. The vehicle will be motorized with a Caterpillar 6-cylinder C9.3 ACERT Diesel engine developing 600 hp. coupled to an automatic transmission Allison 4500 SP wide ration gearbox with 6 forward and 1 reverses gears.

Accessories

The turret of the Terrex 3 is fully integrated with the next generation of BMS (Battle Management System). The Terrex 3 APC is fitted with a panoramic sighting system mounted on the top of the turret. It is also equipped with cameras mounted outside of the vehicle to give situation awareness on 360°. This information is broadcast on screens for the commander, gunner, driver, and for infantry troops at the back. The Terrex 3 is not amphibious unlike the Terrex 1 and Terrex 2.
