Born from a partnership between VTN and Gore, and designed closely with CPA10 operational teams, VTN was awarded the contract to produce new combat uniforms for the Special Forces division of the French Air Force. 20,000 uniforms will be manufactured over 4 years, the Groupe announced in June 2016.

Following on from the “Guerilla uniform” designed at the end of 2013 for the special and specialised forces, this new project once again demonstrates the French expertise of VTN, a subsidiary of Groupe Marck which specialises in exceptional technical clothing.

18 months of work have culminated in a custom-made uniform that has been tested in the field in Mali and the Central African Republic. A uniform that is 100% optimised for soldiers’ protection and efficiency.

The combat uniform comprises an Under Body-Armour Shirt (UBAS) and trousers made from a fabric that has flame-retardant properties thanks to the use of GORE® PYRAD® technology.

As a result of this innovation, the uniform meets the Index 3 requirements of the EN ISO 14116/ISO 15025-A standard. There is no flame propagation and the external layer carbonises to form a stable barrier that protects the soldier. In addition, it’s extremely resistant and durable (colour stability, resistance to tearing and abrasion). It is comfortable to wear and is ultra-quick drying which reduces cold sensations.

What’s more, many features have been added (shock cord locks at the ankles, articulated knees, adjustable Velcro tabs) to meet the operational needs of the soldier: ease of movement, light weight,
carrying capacity.

This uniform comes with a jacket made from a very lightweight and breathable fabric for other service activities.
