|BMPT-72 Terminator 2 new generation of Russian tank support armored fighting vehicle at RAE 2013.|
The Russian Defense Company Uralvagonzavod has unveiled its new tank support armoured fighting vehicle BMPT-72 or Terminator-2 at the defense exhibition RAE 2013 (Russian Arms Expo) at Nizhny Tagil in Russia. The new vehicle is based on the chassis of T-72 main battle tank, but is equipped with a new turret with dual cannon and anti-tank missile launchers.

The BMPT-72 (Terminator-2) is a modernized version of the previous version of the BMPT but the turret is upgraded with new armour and turret which provide more protection for the crew. The vehicle is also equipped with an improved fire control and navigation systems with video, thermal and laser rangefinder sights for gunner and commander. The crew of new BMPT-72 is now three, in place of five for the BMPT.
The BMPT-72 is able to engage a full range of ground and air targets in all-weather conditions in any combat mode, complicated geographic and urban area. The vehicle has total combat of 44,000 kg, 3t less than the first version of BMPT.
The BMPT-72 is armed with two 30mm 2A42 guns which fire a full range of rounds as APRS-T, HEF-I, AP-T, KE rounds. The vehicle carries a total of 850 ammunitions. Two launchers for laser guided anti-tank missile ATAKA 9M120 (NATO code AT-9 Spiral-2) are mounted to each side of the turret which can be used against main battle tank, light armoured vehicles and helicopters up to a maximum range of 6,000m.
The BMPT-72 is more protected than the old BMPT, with an increased armoured protected at the front against anti-tank missile and small arms. The missile launcher units are now fitted with armour. The rear side of the hull and the turret are equipped with slat armour for protection against anti-tank rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) attacks.
The BMPT-72 is motorized with a 12 cylinder turbo supercharger multi-fuel engine to increase power. The vehicle is also fitted with an auxiliary power unit to extend mission of BMPT-72 on the battle field and running all combat systems in silent mode.
