Pakistan has successfully test-fired its nuclear-capable cruise missile Hatf-7 Babur.
Pakistan's military says it has successfully test-fired the cruise missile Hatf-7 (Babur) capable of carrying a nuclear warhead on Monday, September 17, 2012. The launch, the site of which was not disclosed, was made from a mobile launcher according to media reports.
     

Babur nuclear-capable cruise missile, which has a range of 700 km can hit precision targets and employs stealth technology according to local media reports.
     

An army statement says the Hatf-VII or Babur missile, which has a range of 700 kilometers (435 miles), was test-fired from a specially equipped vehicle in an undisclosed location Monday. The statement says the missile has stealth features and can fly very close to the ground.

Pakistan has tested the missile in the past. Senior army officials and scientists attended Monday's test launch.

The missile tests are part of a process of validating the system. Babur, which can carry strategic and conventional warheads, has stealth capabilities, is a low flying, terrain hugging missile with high maneuverability, pin point accuracy and radar avoidance

Pakistan and its nuclear-armed rival neighboring India routinely test different versions of their missiles. The two countries have fought three wars since they gained independence from Britain in 1947.
