ARES AJAX tracked APC armored personnel carrier General Dynamics UK British Army 925 001

Description
The SCOUT SV is a program for the British Army to provide a new generation of light tracked armoured vehicle. The Scout SV program is lead by the Company General Dynamics UK with the goal to replace the CVRT (light armoured vehicle) fleet of the British Army. The PMRS (Protected Mobility Reconnaissance Support) is the reconnaissance variant of the Scout SV family now called AJAX family. In June 2014, at DVD (Defence Vehicle Dynamics), General Dynamics UK has unveiled the first pre-production prototype of ARES AJAX PMRS (Protected Mobility Recce Support). The ARES AJAX PMRS will provide safe transportation of fully-equipped soldiers in a well-protected environment. On dismount, troops will be able to more effectively conduct a variety of tasks, such as dismounted surveillance (including patrols), observation posts and close target reconnaissance. Its extensive capabilities include acoustic detectors, a laser warning system, a local situational awareness system, an electronic countermeasure system, a route marking system, an advanced electronic architecture and a high performance power pack. Protected Mobility Recce Support (PMRS) will be used to deliver and support specialist troops across the battlefield to enable organic combined arms manoeuvre at the lowest tactical level alongside SCOUT equipped troops. PMRS provides safe transportation of the modern, fully equipped, soldier in a well protected environment. On dismount, the fully briefed troops will be able to more effectively conduct a variety of tasks such as dismounted surveillance (including patrols), observation posts and close target reconnaissance. It will also serve in a variety of non-specialist Liaison Officer roles, including Forward Air Controllers. At DSEI 2015, the international defense exhibition in United Kingdom, the Scout SV vehicle was renamed AJAX including six variants, AJAX, ARES, APOLLO, ATHENA, ATLAS and ARGUS. The ARES is now the name of the PMRS (Protected Mobility Recce Support) variant in the AJAX family.  In February 2019, General Dynamics UK has delivered the first two ARES tracked armored vehicles to the British army.

Design and protection
Scout SV PMRS or ARES AJAX has much higher survivability against a wide range of modern and evolving threats, enabled by all-round modular protection (including Mastiff levels of blast protection), acoustic detection, powerful far-target thermal sights and local situational awareness sensors. The hull and power train growth are designed for a 25% increase in weight, and there is 100% growth capacity in sub-system electrical power and data throughput, all built-in at the outset. The open scalable 'security accredited' electronic architecture will enable upgrades to be integrated with relative ease through life. The Scout SV PMRS can carry a total of 6 soldiers includind driver and gunner.
Mobility
The Scout SV PMRS or ARES AJAX is motorized with a 600kW Diesel engine coupled to an automatic transmission. The torsion bar suspension on each side consists of seven dual rubber-tyred road wheels with the drive sprocket at the front and idler at the rear. The vehicle can run at a maximum road speed of 70 km with a maximum cruising range of 500 km. The Scout SV is able to negotiate slopes up to 60%, natural and engineered trenches of 2.5m maximum and vertical obstacle of 0.75m. The soldiers enter and leave the vehicle through a large single door that opens to the right.
Accessories
The Scout SV PMRS or ARES AJAX is fitted with a full range of ISTAR (Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance) equipment a laser warning system, local situational awareness day/night system and crew high definition touchscren display. Standard equipment of Scout SV PMRS includes also mobile camouflage system, fire detection system, electronic countermeasure system, and NBC protection system.
