Radar |
The P- 40 Long Track radar uses an open frame truncated parabolic antenna with a stacked antenna feed The antenna is mounted at the rear of the tracked chassis. The radar capable of being folded for stowage during transit. Azimuth was determined by mechanical scanning while the angle of the target is determined from within which beam of the antenna stack the target is detected. It has a maximum range of about 370 km. The P40 radar is also equipped with EDM which offers protection against active and passive jamming. |
Design and protection |
The front part of the P-40 vehicle is fitted with a four-man cab mounted a tracked chassis ATT-426U which is of all-steel construction, having a door either side. The rear part of the vehicle is fitted with a large shelter which includes all the electronic components and the crew to detect and track aerial targets at a range of 70 km at an altitude of 500 m, 150 km at an altitude of 6 km and 180 km at an altitude of 12 km. The P-40 had a crew of 6 and a total weight of 35 tons, the radar being powered by a gas turbine running 400 Hz generator. |
