Mobile Electronic Warfare EW 4x4 Armored Vehicle
The Leer-2 also called Tigr-M MKTK REI PP VPK-233114 called is a mobile technical control, electronic emulation and electronic countermeasures system which is based on the Tigr-M 4x4 armored vehicle. The vehicle is designed for developing radio emitters, jamming, and suppressing radio-electronic means including cellular phone systems. In addition, the system can be used as part of field tests to create realistic tactical electronic situations and imitate the operation of various radio-electronic systems. The vehicle is based on the standard vehicle Tigr-M VPK 223114 is designed and manufactured by two Moscow-based companies, VPK (Voyenno-promishlennaya kompaniya - Military-industrial company) for the vehicle and VNII Etalon (Vserossiyskiy naucsno-issledovatelskiy institut - Russian Scientific-Research Institute) for the Electronic Warfare (EW) system. The vehicle is in service with Russian land forces since 2012.
Leer-2 EW vehicle variants:
- The Electronic Warfare system Leer-2 can be also mounted on KAMAZ 4350 truck chassis.
- Leer-2E: The export version of the Russian vehicle.
Electronic Warfare Equipment
The equipment of the automated EW (Electronic Warfare) system Leer-2 has smoothly blended in with the armored body of the Tigr-M. The system can operate close to the enemy's FLOT, which ensures the high effectiveness of the EW gear and good protection for the crew. The system can operate both on the move and in a static position. All the antennas of the electronic warfare system Leer-2 are mounted on a platform fitted on the vehicle roof. In a static position, two telescopic antennas can also be deployed on the vehicle roof. Electronic components of the Leer-2 also include technical control and electronic intelligence automated workstation, electronic countermeasures equipment, communication and power supply equipment and a specialized mission software
Design and protection
The Leer-2 is based on the Tigr-m 4x4 armored vehicle and the design is very similar to a standard 4x4 light tactical vehicle with the engine at the front, crew in the middle, and operators compartment at the rear. The vehicle provides a ballistic protection STANAG 4569 Level against the firing of small arms 7.62 calibers. To protect the engine from small-arms fire, the bonnet is armored.
The Leer-2 Tigr-M is powered by a Russian YMZ-5347-10 multi-fuel diesel engine fully compliant with Euro-4 emissions requirements. The new turbocharged and inter-cooled engine develops 215-hp compared to 205-hp in the basic Tiger. The vehicle's off-road capability on soft ground has increased owing to a new design of the axles fitted with forced-locking bevel gear differentials. The Leer-2 can be also mounted on KAMAZ 4350 truck chassis.
The Leer- 2 Electronic Warfare system of the Tigr-M MKTK REI PP includes technical control and electronic intelligence automated workstation, electronic countermeasures equipment, communication and power supply equipment, and specialized mission software. It also carries an electric winch with a pulling force of 4,000 kg and 20 m of wire rope
The Leer-2 is designed for developing radio emitters, jamming, and suppressing radio-electronic means including cellular phone systems. In addition, the system can be used as part of field tests to create realistic tactical electronic situations and imitate the operation of various radio-electronic systems. It provides search-direction finding, recording, parameters measuring of the signals of standard VHF radio equipment, cellular and trunking radio communication operating at fixed frequencies, and FJSS mode with the hopping rate of up to 1,000 hops per second. It can also detect the location of radio signals when operating in tandem with a similar system or in the multi-point direction finding mode when the station is in motion. It can provide selective and wideband barrage jamming against VHF radio communications, GSM 900, GSM 1800/1900, CDMA 2000, WCDMA, AMPS/DAMPS, NMT-4501 cellular mobile systems; trunking communications systems (TETRA, MPT-1327).
