Description
The RG33 4x4 USSOCOM is a mine-resistant light armored vehicle designed and manufactured by BAE Systems Land Systems South Africa a South African subsidiary of BAE Systems. The RG-33 USSOCOM variant was based on the RG-33 4x4, with features designed to meet the requirements of US Special Operations Command. In July 2008, the Department of Defense announced that BAE Systems Land and Armaments, LP, Ground Systems Division, of York, Pennsylvania, had been awarded by Marine Corps Systems Command for a delivery order under a previously awarded firms-fixed-price, indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract for the purchase of 36 RG-33 United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles. In August 2008, BAE System receives a second order for 36 RG-33 USSOCOM vehicles.

Armament
The RG33 USSOCOM is fitted with a remote weapon system, armed with a 7.62 mm machine gun and smoke grenades discharger fitted to each sides of the turret. The RG33 SOCOM of the U.S Army is equipped with a XM153 CROWS II (Common Remotely Operated Weapon Station). The CROWS II turret can be armed with a M2 .50 cal machine gun or MK-19 40mm grenade launcher. The turret is fitted with sensors for targets acquisition and includes a daylight video camera, a thermal imaging camera, a laser range finder and fire control computer to ensure accurate ballistic fire.
Design and protection
The RG33 USSOCOM vehicle carry protection against improvised explosive devices, anti-personnel mines, small arms and heavy machine gunfire. As with other RG33 vehicles, the RG-33 USSOCOM has a V-shaped hull design to deflect explosions away from its crew.
Mobility
The RG33 USSOCOM uses a Unimog 4x4 chassis. The RG33 USSOCOM is motorised with a Cummins 400 I6 Diesel engine coupled to an Allison 3200 transmission. US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) is upgrading most of its mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) vehicle fleet with new suspension systems that are better suited for use in Afghanistan.
Accessories
The RG33 4x4 USSOCOM is equipped with wing arm mounts, internal seating for eight, integrated unique SOCOM equipment, C4ISR integration, and a rear door assist.
