Serbian Military Technical Institute unveils RWS with 12.7mm machine gun


The design of this light Remote Weapon Station aims at enabling the crew of an armored vehicle to treat targets located at a distance of up to 1,200 meters. The device is gyrostabilized in two axes, enabling some firing on the move.

The RWS, weighing 400 kg, is armed with a 12.7mm heavy machine gun (M87 model mounted here) fed by a 250-round ammo box. The turret can move at 360° in azimuth, and from -5° to +60° in elevation. It can be controlled either by wire or remotely.

The observation and sighting system consists of a CDD camera for daylight operations, a thermal camera with digital zoom for night operations, and a laser rangefinder efficient up to 2 km.
