In February 2011, French defense procurement agency DGA has placed an order with Panhard, working with program co-contractor Sagem (Safran group), for 100 Wasp turrets as part of an operational emergency acquisition procedure. These Wasp turrets will be used on the French army’s PVP and VBL light armoured vehicles.

Developed jointly by Panhard and Sagem, the Wasp (Weapon under Armor for Self-Protection) is a light turret that is remotely-controlled from inside the vehicle. It is fitted with a MAG 58 7.62 mm machine gun, coupled to a day/infrared sight and observation scope derived from the FELIN soldier modernization program, for day or night operation. Incorporating lessons from previous deployments, the Wasp turret significantly enhances self-protection for soldiers, while enabling quicker responsiveness under armor.

At the Paris Air Show 2011, Panhard presents four types of military vehicles, the PVP in law enforcement version, the TC54 light armoured truck, the VBL with WASP turret armed with a 7.62 mm machine gun and the VPS light Special Forces vehicle.
     
The PVP (Petit Véhicule Protégé - Small protected vehicle) is a light, general-purpose armoured 4-wheel drive vehicle designed, manufactured and marketed by the French Defence Company Panhard. Actually 933 PVP are in services in the French Army, the vehicle is also used by the Chile and Togo. The German Company Rheinmetall offered a licence-built variant known as Gavial for the German Army. At Paris Air Show 2011, Panhard presents a law enforcement PVP version.

This 4x4 truck which is now being mass-produced was developed to cater for the specific needs of armed forces' in the logistics field. The TC 54 offers the best payload/empty weight ratio in this its vehicle category. Many countries have expressed an interest in this vehicle on the strength of the performances it offers. The TC-54 is presented at Paris Air Show 2011 with an armour cabin and a 7.62 mm machine gun mounted at the top of the crew cabin.

The Panhard VPS (Véhicule Patrouille Spéciale - Special Forces Patrol Vehicle) as delivered to the French Army Special Forces is based on the Mercedes-Benz 270 CDI G-Class. The base vehicle is delivered direct to Panhard General Defence's Saint Germain Laval facilities as a running two-door (minus the doors) vehicle from Magna Steyr's Austrian production facility. All militarisation including painting and installation of the mine-blast protecting floorpan is carried out by Panhard at Saint Germain Laval. The basic crew of the VPS is two, driver (front left) and commander (front right), with the rear crew compartment configurable for payload or an additional one or two crew members.
