Iran: Bavar-373 air defense missile system has vertical launchers

The Bavar-373, Iran’s indigenous long-range air defense missile system, is equipped with vertical launching systems (VLS). The is undergoing complicated tests, a military official said, reported by Tasnim, adding that efforts are underway to bring it into service by the end of the current Iranian year (March 2019).

In August 2016, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani unveiled the Bavar-373 air defense system. A distinguishing feature of Bavar-373 is its vertical launching system with square-shape launchers, mostly used for air defense on warships. Bavar-373 works with a long-range, phased array fire-control radar, dubbed Me’raj-4.

The air defense system employs three different types of missiles to hit targets at various altitudes. Iranian military technicians have made great achievements in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.
