The agreement envisages upgrading of combat vehicles for the Ministry of Defense under state defense order (SDO) in the framework of State Armament Program 2025 (SAP-2025). It is one of the first major agreements on the SDO implementation under SAP-2025. The agreement was signed by Dmitry Konoplev, Deputy CEO of the High Precision Systems holding company (part of Rostec State Corporation) and CEO of KBP Instrument Design Bureau (part of High Precision Systems) from Rostec and Deputy Defense Minister Yuri Borisov from the Russian MoD.

Chemezov also launched a new workshop built to upgrade light-armored combat vehicles at Shcheglovsky Val Plant (a KBP subsidiary) in Tula. In line with the signed agreement, the workshop will be used to modernize BMP-2 and BMD-2 vehicles.

"Launching the workshop will enable the repair and modernization of lightly armored vehicles. This step has been supported by the Ministry of Defense," he said.

The standard BMP-2 and BMD-2 are fitted with a turret armed with one armed with a stabilized 30 mm cannon 2A42 and a 7.62 mm PKT coaxial machine gun mounted to the left of the main armament. The Berezhok combat module is armed with the 30 mm 2A42 main gun, a PKT 7.62 mm coaxial machine gun, four 9M133 Kornet-E anti-tank guided missile launchers, two on each of the turret and one AGS-30 30 mm automatic grenade launcher. The Berezhok upgrade also includes a new fire-control system and optics.
