"The Eastern Military District training center in the Khabarovsk Territory has started modernizing the training range that will be the first one in the military district to receive an advanced Russian-made radio-controlled target system. Compared with the current RTK-1 cable-controlled target equipment, the up-to-date remotely-controlled man-portable targets will reduce the preparation time by far, while increasing training’s mobility and quality much," Gordeyev said.

According to the officer, the system enables troops to handle the complete cycle of field problems by choosing scenarios of varying degrees of complexity and taking into account commands of the exercise director or range officer. The system records the time and number of hits for each target and feeds real-time data to the computer.

"The modernization of the target range increases its functionality and the training quality and reduces the number of troops engaged in its operation and maintenance considerably. The upgraded facility is slated for commissioning next year," Gordeyev added.
