Based on the Sky News and the Fox News reports, which quoted a Bahraini Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement,  the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, including Bahrain, were considering the procurement of an Israeli-made air-defence system to counter the Iranian threat. According to the same sources, the US Government was allegedly promoting the project.

However, Mr. Al Hammadi informed the Bahraini daily newspaper “Al Wasat”, that the country’s Ministry of Foreing Affairs has contacted Fox News and demanded a correction of the statement. According to the Minister of Information, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states are looking into buying an anti-missile defense system from the United States, and there are no attempts whatsoever to purchase the system from Israel as claimed by the television channel”.
