Russian Signal Troops to be provided with enhanced communication systems by 2020
Russian Signal Troops, formed exactly 95 years ago, will be provided with modern broadband multimedia satellite communication systems by 2020, Maj. Gen. Khalil Arslanov, the chief of the Main Communications Directorate of the Russian Armed Forces, said today, October 20.

"To meet the need of the field of command of the Russian Armed Forces in modern multimedia communication services, development work is being carried out on the creation of modern interference-resistant broadband satellite communication systems within the framework of broader efforts to expand the satellite communication system of the Russian Defense Ministry before 2020," Arslanov said.

The head of the General Communications Agency noted that special attention will be paid to the installment of ground satellite communication stations. The software and equipment, used at the stations will be synchronized into a unified system.

The functionality of the equipment will be increased through the reduction of its weight and size. This will also make the communication equipment more transportable.
