Iran and Iraq want to boost military cooperation to increase regional security
 

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said Iran attaches much importance to its ties with Iraq, and stressed the necessity for further cooperation between the two neighboring countries in defense fields. Vahidi, heading a high-ranking delegation, arrived in Baghdad this morning in a bid to meet with Iraqi officials and explore avenues for the further expansion of defense cooperation between the two sides.

BAE Systems to Carry Out British Royal Marines BvS10 Viking All-Terrain vehicle Regeneration
 

BAE Systems has been awarded a £38m ($61m) contract to regenerate the Royal Marines’ fleet of BvS10 Viking all-terrain vehicles. The contract, signed with the UK Ministry of Defence, covers the refurbishment of 99 vehicles and brings them all to a common Mk2 mine-protected amphibious standard.

Moscow says it is ready to supply equipment and weapons to Nicaragua as the global fight against the scourge of drug production and smuggling continues. Cooperation with the Central American country “comes down to the question of weapons, uniforms and police equipment,"Viktor Ivanov, head of the Federal Drug Control Service, told reporters following negotiations with Nicaraguan police chief Aminta Granera in Moscow.

Carl Zeiss Optronics manufacturer of defence and civilian products becomes Cassidian Optronics
 

Cassidian has acquired a majority shareholding in what was previously Carl Zeiss Optronics GmbH from Carl Zeiss AG. Cassidian now holds a 75.1 % stake in the new company, which has its headquarters in Oberkochen, Germany, while Carl Zeiss AG holds 24.9 %. All of the optical and optronic activities previously carried out by Carl Zeiss Optronics GmbH are to be continued under the name of “Cassidian Optronics GmbH”.

India to induct 144 indigenously-developed 155mm howitzers with trial test this year
 

Indian Defence Ministry has cleared a proposal to induct 144 indigenously-developed 155mm howitzers into the Army for which trials will be held later this year. The 155mm artillery guns are being developed indigenously by the Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) in Jabalpur on the basis of Transfer of Technology of the controversial Swiss Bofors guns, which were inducted into the Army in late 1980s.
