The UN Security Council has approved a resolution that gives West African nations 45 days to offer details of a plan for international military intervention in Mali, now split in two. The text approved by the council on Friday, October 12, 2012, also urges authorities in Bamako and representatives of Tuareg rebels and Islamist fighters controlling the north to "engage, as soon as possible, in a credible negotiation process".

The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) is expected to receive more military hardware in the future. Israeli army IDF deploys air defense missile Patriot to protect Israeli Airspace
 

A Patriot surface-to-air missile battery was deployed in the northern Israeli city of Haifa on Monday, two days after an unmanned aircraft breached Israeli airspace from the Mediterranean, local media reported. Israel Defense Forces officials were quoted by Ha'aretz daily as saying that the deployment was not an emergency measure, and such systems are deployed to the area from time to time.

Raytheon awarded a contract of U.S. government for anti-tank guided missile TOW
 

Raytheon Company (NYSE: RTN) received a $349 million five-year, multi-year contract to provide heavy anti-tank, wireless precision-assault missiles for the U.S. government. Raytheon received the award during its third quarter. Under this contract, Raytheon will deliver 6,676 of the new wireless TOW (tube-launched, optically tracked, wireless-guided) missiles.

HERCULES is the recovery system of choice for today’s 70-ton combat vehicles, cutting in half the number of recovery vehicles and personnel required to perform recovery missions in support of modern tank forces.

Turkey’s parliament approved a motion allowing the government to order military action against Syria, after a shell fired across the border killed five Turks. The motion, brought by Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's government, was passed with 320 votes for and 129 against.
