Russian Defense Ministry ends Taifun armored vehicles trials


The 3rd Central Scientific Research Institute of the Russian Defense Ministry has tested Taifun-class armored vehicles, the Russian Defense Ministry said. "Thirty protected Taifun-K and Taifun-U armored vehicles have undergone operational trials," it added.

The Russian Defense Ministry has also developed proposals to the manufacturers suggesting how to make the armored vehicles more reliable and protected. Besides, it adopted about 20 instruction manuals for the automobile service. Trials are an inseparable part of modernization. The 3rd Central Scientific Research Institute of the Russian Defense Ministry regularly tests modern hardware pieces.

The newest Taifun armored vehicles came in service with the Russian army in 2015. The vehicles are equipped with integrated ceramic protective armor, which can withstand the detonation of up to 8 kilograms of TNT under any wheel and in any place under the chassis. The vehicle has five video cameras, which ensure an all-round view for the driver. The Taifun vehicles can be equipped with a remote-controlled machinegun module, from where a shooter can fire by using a control panel.

The multirole Taifun-K armored vehicles are designed to transport military personnel (16 men). Video surveillance cameras, which are installed around the perimeter, provide a panoramic view for the crew and the driver. The Taifun -K can be equipped with a remoted controlled machinegun module and ceramic protective armor. Taifun-K armored vehicles have shown good performance in Syria.
