The Indonesian ministry of Defense announced on 22 November that the exports of defense industrial products reached US$284.1 million from 2015 to 2018. "On the other hand, the domestic sales in the same period reached Rp5.4 trillion," Rear Admiral Agus Setyadi, head of defense facilities, said on the sidelines of a discussion event at the East Java governor`s office here.

The Russian Defense Ministry plans to extend the life cycle of Topol-M, Voevoda and UR-100N intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM). It will appropriate over 900 million rubles for the task up to 2020, the government procurement portal said.

This Thursday 22 November 2018, the Belgian army has officially implemented the creation of its Motorized Brigade, a fundamental change from the previous Medium Brigade by both its composition and doctrine of use. The new command is assigned to Col. Jean-Louis Crucifix. The ceremony took place at Camp Roi Albert, in Marche-en-Famenne (southern Belgium), HQ of the new brigade. It was attended by Sander Loones, the New Belgian Defense Minister, Gen. Marc Compernol, Chief of Defense, and an impressive array of Belgian and foreign generals, staff officers, Defense attachés and civilian authorities.

On the occasion of the "Forum Innovation Defense" organized by the French Armed Forces and held from 22 to 24 November in Paris, LACROIX was asked to present its latest detection-response coupling solution. LACROIX presents its vision of "soft kill" vehicle self-protection through a functional demonstrator and immersive 3D demos.

President Vladimir Putin chaired a meeting with the military and defense industry leaders to discuss the implementation of the arms program. "This year, the Defense Ministry allocated significant resources for the creation and mass production of weapons and military equipment: a total of almost 1.5 trillion rubles," Putin said.

EU Defence ministers have endorsed on 19 November the EU BLOS (Beyond Line Of Sight) project amongst a list of 17 defence projects aiming at being implemented in the frame of Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO). Proposed by France and supported by Belgium and Cyprus, the EU BLOS project is the first missile system project to benefit from this new cooperation framework.

U.S. Marines and U.S. Navy Seabees jointly deployed a WFEL Medium Girder Bridge (MGB) in Norway during exercise Trident Juncture 18, the largest NATO exercise in more than 16 years. The troops demonstrated their bridge-building skills in a constricted workspace in an extremely harsh weather environment and tested their ability to ensure mobility of forces during the scenario of an existing bridge over a gap becoming structurally unsound due to battle damage and unsafe for military vehicles to cross. The need for the new bridge was, therefore, critical.

InstantEye Robotics is pleased to announce it has secured a contract with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) in support of PMA-263, the Navy and Marine Corps Small Tactical Unmanned Aircraft Systems (SUAS) Program Office, to field 32 InstantEye Mk-3 GEN5-D1 SUAS systems (64 aircraft).

The Romanian army is seeking new main battle tanks. "At present, the Romanian Army operates some TR-85 and TR-85M1 MBTs that do not meet any modern requirements to heavy armored vehicles. Therefore, the Ministry of Defense is initiating a program aimed at the modernization of the service`s tank fleet. Some requests for information [RfI] will be sent to potential vendors at an early date," a source told TASS. The Romanian military is believed to aim at replacing its obsolete tanks by Leopard 2A5 MBTs.

On Tuesday, November 20, 2018, during an official ceremony, Iran has unveiled a new 4x4 armored mine-resistant ambush-protected (MRAP) personnel carrier (APC) nicknamed Toofan, manufactured by the Iranian Defense Industry. At the same time, the new armored personnel carriers were delivered to the Law Enforcement Police and the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC)'s Ground Force. 

The 90th Tank division in the Urals will be the first formation fully rearmed with upgraded BMP-2M combat vehicles. It is a test site for new tactic and staff matrix. BMP-2M can fire at spaces and armored vehicles. The experience of the 90th division will be introduced in the troops, the Izvestia daily writes.

According to a Chinese newspaper, China has acquired 'the Ferrari of the war room software'. This software is the work of LuciadLightspee, a Belgian company from Leuven, even if the company itself denies it. Luciad is a kind of spin-off of the Belgian university KU Leuven specializing in geospatial information systems, which was bought last year by the Swedish firm Hexagon.

Ranking Department of National Defense (DND) officials and their counterparts from the Directorate General of Armaments and Materiel (DGAM) of Spain's Ministry of Defense have met to discuss a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which could serve as legal framework for the acquisition of Spanish military equipment through government-to-government deals.

General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems (St. Petersburg, Florida) was awarded a $14,413 firm-fixed-price contract for Army Ground Mobility Vehicles and associated kits. Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of Nov. 16, 2019. U.S. Army Contracting Command, Warren, Michigan, is the contracting activity.

A deputy commander of the Iranian Army said the infantry and rapid reaction units of the Army are planned to be equipped with advanced smart equipment. “Since manpower is the main asset of military organizations, it is important for us to protect it,” Rear Admiral Seyed Mahmoud Mousavi told the Tasnim News Agency. “Accordingly, the provision of individual equipment needed to help our manpower to carry out its missions in the best and safest way is on the agenda of the Army,” he added.

Otokar, leading supplier of the Turkish military and security forces for wheeled tactical vehicles, promotes its Arma 8x8 modular wheeled armored vehicle in Bahrain. Otokar, a Koc Group Company recently participated in Bahrain International Airshow (BIAS).

So far, China has imported a lot of military hardware made in Russia, which is why the creation of an after-sale support center is one of the most important issues on the bilateral agenda. Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSVTS) believes that it will be economically viable to set up a maintenance center for S-300 and S-400 missile systems in China, FSVTS head Dmitry Shugaev told reporters.

The US Army will equip its M1A2 Abrams main battle tanks with Elta’s WindGuard Active Protection System, IAI announced on 13 November. Elta Systems, a division and subsidiary of IAI, was by Leonardo DRS to provide the US with the radar in addition to a contract for Rafael Trophy system which was signed with US Army last June.

As expected, the U.S. armed forces are to request an increased budget to develop lasers, microwave beams, and other directed-energy defenses to fight off missiles and drone swarms, the Pentagon’s top weapons engineer said on 13 November. “You’re going to see, in upcoming budgets for missile defense, a renewed emphasis on laser scaling [meaning scaling up the power of lasers] across several technologies,” Michael Griffin, Defense undersecretary for research and engineering, said at an event hosted by the Center for Strategic International Studies, as reported by Michael Tucker on Defense One.

The United States has given 12 Bastion Armoured Personnel Carriers (APCs) to the Kenyan Defence Forces to help the country improve border surveillance. The APCs are set to support KDF’s efforts in the fight against extremists, including the use of Improvised Explosive Devices along the porous border between Kenya and war-torn Somalia.

The Bundeswehr has awarded Rheinmetall a major contract for tank ammunition. Encompassing 13,000 rounds of 120mm x 570 DM88 ammunition, the order is worth €21.4 million, including value added tax. Delivery begins in November 2018 and should be complete by the end of the year. The DM88 is an advanced practice round made specifically for the Leopard 2 main battle tank.

Over the weekend, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) moved their newly-delivered Gulan 1000 missile system to the Al-Safa region of Al-Sweida. The Syrian army’s 4th Armored Division began using its Gulan 1000 system against Daesh in the Al-Safa region immediately after it arrived.
