Four Stryker vehicles of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team and 40 soldiers were airlifted to Deadhorse, Alaska with a USAF Boeing C-17 Globemaster III aircraft. With the Arctic Circle becoming a increasingly important field of operations due to the melting of the ice and the opening of sea and land routes that were previously inaccessible due to ice, the exercise simulated and tested the rapid deployment capability in the area.

The 1st SBCT regularly trains in this extreme environment, as well as in other areas of the state. The platoon deployment involved other state agencies such as the Alaska Department of Natural Resources and the North Slope Borough.
