CZ signed contract with Egypt for P-07 Duty handguns and Scorpion EVO3 A1 submachineguns
Czech small arms manufacturer CZ has sold 5 000 submachineguns and 50 000 pistols to Egypt, with deliveries of pistols currently underway. Last year Ceska Zbrojovka (CZ) signed a massive contract with Egypt’s Ministry of Interior for 50 000 P-07 Duty 9 mm handguns. This contract was fulfilled in 2013. Also in 2013, CZ supplied 5 000 Scorpion EVO3 A1 9 mm submachineguns to the Ministry of Interior.

CZ earlier this year began delivering another 8 000 P-07 Duty pistols to Egypt.

CZ has a long history in Egypt and has been active in the country since the 1970s/80s when it started cooperation with the Ministry of Interior, which acquired steel CZ 75 pistols.

Egypt has ordered a substantial number of small arms recently - the United Nations conventional arms register listed Egypt as acquiring 5 000 assault rifles from the Czech Republic last year. Egypt also received 550 rifles/carbines and 1 300 assault rifles from the United Kingdom in 2013.

The P-07 Duty is a polymer compact pistol designed mainly as a service weapon and for concealed carry. It is one of the latest versions of the CZ 75 series, originally introduced as a steel weapon. The P-07 Duty has a redesigned trigger mechanism and altered styling and is available in .40 S&W and 9 mm Luger calibres.

The Scorpion is aimed at security forces and armies and meets requirements for reliable operation in adverse conditions according to NATO standards (AC 225/D14). It is available in either select-fire (semi-automatic, three round burst or fully automatic) or semi-automatic variants. The weapon was designed to be handled easily in confined spaces and as such has a removable stock with telescoping butt. Picatinny rails allow for attachments like sights, flashlights, handles etc. while the barrel can accept a suppressor. The Scorpion is chambered in 9x19 mm Parabellum and fires at a rate of 1 150 rounds per minute from a 20 or 30 round magazine. Effective range is up to 250 metres.The gun weights 2.77 kg fully loaded.
