Description
The KN-06 (also know under the name of Pongae-5 SAM) is a mobile surface-to-air defense missile system designed and manufactured by the North Korean defense industry which seems to be similar to the Russian S-300 air defense missile system. The KN-06 was first seen during a military parade of North Korean armed forces in 2010, Pyongyang. In June 2011, CNN website has announced that North Korea test-fired KN-06 short-range missile off its western coast. According to South Korea’s Ministry of Defense, the KN-06 is based on technology Pyongyang secretly obtained from China and Russia. A second tests firing of the KN-06 missile was performed in April 2015. In April 2016, North Koea has conducted another test launch of the KN-06 missile.

Launcher Unit
The KN-06 is based on a 6x6 truck, which is also the transporter erector launcher (TEL) unit. Three launcher tubes are mounted to the rear of the truck chassis. In firing position two circular hydraulic jacks are lowered to the ground on each side of the truck chassis.
Missile
The KN-06 missile is stored in a launching tube and fired vertically toward a flying target. According military sources, the KN-08 has maximum range of 150 km. Imagery of missile launch tubes shows they are larger but shorter than the S-300's missiles.
Mobility
The KN-06 seems to be transported on a 6x6 KAMAZ truck chassis. Just back of the crew cab, there is one small shelter which is used to control all the firing operations.

According our first analysis of the North Korean military parade footage of RT, October 10, 2015. A battery of KN-06 air defense missile system includes one command post, one phase array radar and 12 transporter erector launcher.
