The U.S. Army Rapid Equipping Force, through the Robotics Technology Consortium, selected the Lockheed Martin Squad Mission Support System (SMSS) to deploy to Afghanistan for a first-of-its-kind military assessment. SMSS will deploy as the winner of the Project Workhorse Unmanned Ground Vehicle (UGV) competition sponsored by the Army.

Three French soldiers serving with the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) were wounded by road side bomb near the city of Saida. The front of the troop carrier bore the brunt of the blast and was badly damaged, with several parts blown 20 to 30 metres away.

BAE Systems received multiple awards from the U.S. Marine Corps totalling more than $56 million for five separate delivery orders for work on the RG-33 Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity (IDIQ) contract. The awards will provide upgrades for MRAP vehicles currently in the field.
