MSPO 2021: ZMT from Poland showcases integration of its ZSMU A3B remote weapon station on UGV

At MSPO 2021, International defense exhibition in Poland, the Polish company Zakłady Mechaniczne Tarnów S.A (ZMT) presents its solution of remote-controlled weapon station ZSMU A3B mounted on wheeled 4x4 UGV (Unmanned Ground Vehicle).

The Polish Armed Forces have over ten years of experience in using UGVs (Unmanned Ground Vehicle), also in combat operations conducted in Afghanistan and Iraq. As in other countries, the robotization of the Polish Land Forces began with the introduction of C-IED (Counter Improvised Explosive Devices) and UXO (Unexploded Ordnance) clearing robots. The introduction of this type of equipment has been forced by the geopolitical situation and Polish involvement in the operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Polish government and the military decision-makers promote and sponsor the research and development of land platforms that could then be used to build UGVs for logistics purposes (transport and supply tasks), as well as the creation of armed platforms capable of fighting with the enemy’s combat power.
The Polish Armed Forces continue the studies to acquire unmanned platforms supporting combat activities at the lowest tactical levels and even at the level of a single soldier’s activities. Armed UGVs will provide the ground combat element with armed unmanned scouting and surveillance capabilities. The UGVs can conduct combat missions offering safety situations for the operators that operate the UGV at a safe distance of the front line.
The Polish company Zakłady Mechaniczne Tarnów S.A (ZMT) presents a new solution of an unmanned ground vehicle fitted with its remote-controlled weapon station ZSMU A3B that could be used to conduct reconnaissance or combat missions offering high mobility and firepower.
The ZSMU A3B is a 2-axis gyro-stabilized RWS (Remote Weapon Station) that can be operated during day and night conditions and which can be mounted on different types of platforms and vehicles, including UGV. The turret can be armed with a 7.62mm or 12.7mm machine gun as well as ATGM (Anti-Tank Guided Missile) or man-portable air defense missile system. The turret is equipped with a laser rangefinder which has a range of 5 km, a video tracker, visual target tracking, a day camera, and thermal vision.
