Currently, the Polish Armed Forces have 232 PT-91 Twardy main tanks, created either from scratch or as part of the modernization of T-72M / M1 vehicles. For several years, ZM "Bumar Labedy" SA has been preparing further, new proposals for variants of modernization of these tanks in order to improve and increase their combat capabilities in the best possible cost-effect ratio. One of the most advanced variants is the PT-91M2A2.

The modernization variant of the PT-91M2A2 MBT puts emphasis on modernization, and thus a significant improvement of five different components of the T72M1 / PT-91 tanks. It is about increasing: firepower and fire manoeuvre, survivability on the battlefield, mobility, crew work comfort and extension of the mission duration and ergonomics.

As part of the modernization of the chassis, the PT-91M2A2 introduced a new diesel engine with power from 1000 to 1200 HP in a power-pack system with an automatic transmission. The suspension of this tank was also strengthened.
