With a maximum effective range of 6000 m and a rate of fire of 550 rounds/min, the Hydra system is also capable of destroying lightly armored land and naval surface targets. When coupled with a command and control unit (e.g. UMBRELLA) the Hydra constitutes an air defense battery fire unit.

The target tracking data are received through the command and control vehicle and worked out autonomously by passive sensors. The sensors are battery-powered to decrease thermal signature, what allows to operate in stealth operating mode.

The Hydra 35-mm anti-aircraft system is highly resistant against ECM, capable of high mobility and high battlefield survivability. Dual-feed arrangement, with magazines on either side of the gun chamber, enables fast and easy switching between two different types of ammunition, e.g. FAPDS and ABM.
