Description
The Husky (also known as Chubby System) is a mine clearing wheeled protected vehicle designed and manufactured by the South African company DCD Protected Mobility. The Chubby System or Husky is a distinct versatile sensor platform that has been deployed around the world since the 1980’s. This highly sophisticated vehicle, which detects landmines and explosive devices, has evolved to adapt to new technology and demands. The Husky is the first South African armoured vehicle to be type classified by the US Government. Suitable for use in both rural and urban environments, the Husky facilitates fast and efficient route clearance by creating safe passage for military convoys and civilian vehicles. When configured for mine/IED detection, a Husky can cover a 3-meter wide swath at 35 km/h, averaging about 200 km per day.

Variants
- Husky MkIII: Upgraded version of the standard vehicle
- Husky 2G: Equipped with a two seats crew cabin.
- Husky HMDS: with mine detection system HMDs mounted at the front of the vehicle
- Husky with interrogation arm: a CSI’s Interrogation Arm is mounted at the front of the vehicle to investigate and remove Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs).

Design and protection
The Husky is similar in construction to the mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicle, also known as the MRAP, with a V-shaped undercarriage to direct the blast away from the vehicle and protect its driver. Operator survivability is achieved through the Husky's V-shaped hull and ability to shed secondary components in a predictable fashion - taken together, these two design features shield the driver from the worst impact of an IED blast. One of the most unique aspects of the Husky is its ability to pass over pressure fused anti-vehicle landmines without detonating them. Vehicle components have been engineered in a unique modular configuration so that in the event of an IED detonation, they will break apart in a predictable fashion. The vehicle provides protection for the driver/operator against small arms firing STANAG 4569 Level 3 in standard configuration. The Husky uses a V-Shape hull and the floor of the driver/operator cabin is armored to provide protection against mine blast Level 4A and 4b STANAG 4569. A single hatch is mounted on the top of the driver/operator cabin. The front of the cabin is fitted with one large bullet-proof window and one more to each side.
Mobility
The Husky uses a 4x4 wheeled suspension. The vehicle is motorized with a Mercedes Benz OM906 LA 6.4L 6 cylinder turbo Diesel engine developing 201 hp. coupled to an Allison 2500 SP 5 speed automatic transmission. The Husky can run at a maximum road speed of 75km/h with a maximum range of 800 km. The Husky can negotiate a maximum side slope of 22° and gradient of 70%.
Accessories
The Husky detects IEDs with its IVMMD (Interim Vehicle Mounted Mine Detector), which employs both metal detection and ground penetrating radar sensors to find the deadly IEDs. Standard equipment of the Husky includes air-conditioning system and an on-board automatic fire extinguisher.
