Azerbaijan discusses with United States about a cooperation in the fields of defense and security.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on Wednesday, May 1, 2013, met with a U.S. delegation led by its Transportation Command Gen. William Fraser. According to the press service of the Azerbaijani president, both sides praised the development of bilateral relations as well as high level of cooperation in the field of defense and security.

Fraser thanked Azerbaijan for the contribution to the peacekeeping operations in Afghanistan.

Also on Wednesday, the U.S. commander met with Azerbaijani Defense Minister Safar Abiyev and Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov.

The meetings focused on the U.S.-Azerbaijan ties, the situation in the region, current state and prospects for cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United States in the military and security areas.

The parties also discussed the issue of using the Azerbaijani territory during the withdrawal of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) troops from Afghanistan in 2014.
