Allison awarded U.S. Army contract for new Abrams MBT transmissions


Allison Transmission Inc., Indianapolis, Indiana, was awarded a $68,557,517 cost-plus-fixed-fee, firm-fixed-price contract for new X1100 Abrams transmissions, transmission upgrades, transmission sustainment kits and service support.

Bids were solicited via the internet with one received. Work locations and funding will be determined with each order, with an estimated completion date of March 23, 2023. Fiscal 2020 procurement of weapons and tracked combat vehicles, Army funds in the amount of $68,557,517 were obligated at the time of the award. U.S. Army Contracting Command, Detroit Arsenal, Michigan, is the contracting activity (W56HZV-20-D-0043).

The M1 Abrams has an Allison DDA X-1100-3B four-speed automatic transmission. Allison Transmission's X1100 Series is designed for heavy-tracked combat vehicles up to 45,359-63,503 kg (100,000-140,000 lbs.) and can accept either diesel or turbine engines with ratings up to 1,120 kW (1,500 hp).
