BAE Systems on 7 March confirmed it is offering the CV90, a combat-proven Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV), to the Commonwealth of Australia in response to the LAND 400 Phase 3 Mounted Close Combat Capability Request for Tender. The project team will be led by BAE Systems’ Sweden-based combat vehicles business and supported by BAE Systems Australia.

Russia`s Kalashnikov Group (a subsidiary of the state corporation Rostec) continues the development of the AM-17 personal defense weapon (PDW), according to the company`s press department. The AM-17 PDW is chambered for 5.45x39 (M74) cartridges. The weapon is a further development of the MA carbine that was unveiled at the Army-2016 defense show in Kubinka, near Moscow.

The value of the deal is estimated at some $10 million, the company said.

The Armed Forces of Kuwait have delayed the acquisition of Russian-made T-90MS main battle tanks (MBTs). However, the deal is not cancelled, the chief of the Kuwaiti Army`s Armament and Equipment Authority Anwar al-Mazidi told the Xinhua news agency.

The Australian Minister for Defence, Christopher Pyne, joined the EOS team at Avalon 2019 for the global launch of the new EOS turret for armoured vehicles. Designated the T2000, the turret is the result of a collaboration between EOS and Elbit Systems. It adds a next generation, medium calibre turret to the EOS family of weapon systems and has been designed to meet a rapidly emerging global market worth more than AUD$4 billion.

The British Army is set to be supported by £66 million worth of cutting-edge robots, Defence Secretary Gavin Williamson has announced, reported by Sophie Jones in The Daily Star. Mini drones and robotic combat vehicles will bring the latest technology to the battlefield, he said. These include hundreds of mini drones which weigh less than 200g and are capable of carrying out surveillance over a wide geographical area - costing £31 million.e.

The leading aviation manufacturer of the domestic defense industry, Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI) continues its efforts to meet the country’s demand for unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems. As reported on UASWeekly.com, the engine of Turkey’s new UAV Anka-2, which will have a higher payload capacity than the current UAVs, delivered a successful performance during testing. The brand new Anka-2 is expected to make its first flight this year.
