The 1st Battalion, 501st Aviation Regiment will become 3rd Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment, making it the first Apache battalion to be converted to a heavy attack reconnaissance squadron. The conversion adds three platoons of RQ-7 Shadow unmanned aerial systems to the unit and is part of the Army's five-year Aviation Restructuring Initiative. Part of the restructure eliminates the OH-58 Kiowa Warrior, the venerable armed scout reconnaissance helicopter, from the Army's inventory.

Army tactical exercises were launched by Russian army on Monday in Russia’s Southern Military District in the foothills of the North Caucasian mountains. The press service of the Southern Military District reported that manoeuvres outside Stavropol involve more than 500 troops of the motorized rifle brigade stationed in Chechnya. They drill countering airstrikes and neutralizing imaginary militants.
