Government of Italy has donated military trucks and armoured vehicles to Somalia to rebuild army
The government of Italy has donated 54-military trucks to the Somali National Army SNA as part of assistance in rebuilding the Somalian army. Somali Army Chief General Dahir Adan received the aid on Thursday, March 5, 2015, in Mogadishu seaport after being delivered by a ship. Among other equipment are armoured vehicles.

Maj. Gen Esercito, an official from the Italy army who handled over the equipment told journalists that Italy is committed to continue its support to the Somali government and will take part in the process of rebuilding the country’s army.

General Dahir Adan thanked the Italian government for the donation of the equipment and praised its efforts towards stabilising Somalia.

Military gears including-pick-up trucks, armoured fighting vehicles and bulletproof cars totalling 54-were received by Somali National Army (SNA) commander-in-Chief Gen. Dahir Adan Elmi (Indho Qarshe) at Mogadishu seaport with a senior official with Italian Defence Ministry Bernando Mencaraglia present.

Officials said, the military equipment is meant for police, armed forces and intelligence service.

The vehicles delivered to the Somalian army include also the MAV 5, a light armoured vehicle developed as a joint venture by Carrozzeria Boneschi Srl and the Defence Vehicles Division of IVECO. It has been designed to carry six fully equipped military personnel.

The MAV 5 is based on an IVECO 40.10 4×4 truck chassis, fitted with a steel armoured body 6 mm thick providing the occupants with complete protection from small arms fire. The floor and roof are also of ballistic steel armour with a thickness of 2 to 3 mm.
