After an agreement between the Ministries of Defense and Transportation, the Army and the National Police receive 13 SandCat light protected multi-role vehicle, which were designed to protect roads and infrastructure critical points of the country.

"They're like a cat in the sand , agile , fast and high impact as well as the name translates , armored tactical vehicles Sandcat working in the field," Defense Ministry said.

The SandCat is a composite armored vehicle designed by Plasan of Israel. It is based on a commercial Ford F-Series chassis shortened to a 2.84 m (112 in) wheelbase by Ford Qualified Vehicle Modifier, Manning Equipment of Louisville, Kentucky, United States.

The SandCat is new concept of light multi-role protected vehicle, especialy designed to conduct urban operations and security missions with a totally new vehicle capability. This high-speed, higly-protected, highly-maneuverable vehicle can be specificaly designed for a wide variety of roles.

The SandCat can be reconfigured to fit a wide variety of missions: military, homeland defense, global war on terror, law enforcement and security, special operations, disaster aid and peace-keeping missions. All while meeting the rigorous demands needed for crew and vehicle protection, reliability, versatility, payload capacity and affordability.

The 'armor' of Sandcat are transported from Israel to Kentucky (USA), where they joined the company Plasan. The Military and Police Forces of Mexico, Israel, USA, Sweden, Hungary and now Colombia, among others, are using this vehicle.

The Sandcat, which enter the market in 2005, have high internal technology for the safety of the occupants (eight maximum ): air bags and antifragmentation chairs

In 2012, the Government of Colombia has selected the Oshkosh Sandcat Plasan 4x4 armored vehicle, as new model of MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) for its armed forces under a development of strategy plan called "Plan Meteoro".
