At KADEX 2014, the International Exhibition of weapons systems and Military equipment in Astana (Kazakhstan), URALVAGONZAVOD from Russia and JSC Semey Engineering of Kazakhstan unveil a joint development of the new wheeled reconnaissance armoured vehicle BRDM-KZ based on the chassis of the Russian-made BRDM-2.

The hull of the standard BRDM-2 was entirely modified with a larger space for the crew. The BRDM-KZ is fully amphibious, being propelled in the water by two water-jets mounted at the rear of the hull, the front the trim vane is always available, which is stowed under the nose of the hull when travelling and erected at the front of the hull to cross water. The original winch mounted internally at the front of the hull still exists.

One door is mounted to each side of the hull with one firing port on the upper part. One small bullet-proof window is available on each side of the hull. Two small bullet-proof windows are mounted at the front of the hull.

The BRDM-KZ is motorized with an IVECO EURO IV engine mounted at the rear of the vehicle. With this new engine, the BRDM-KZ can run at a maximum speed of 110 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 1,300 km.

The reconnaissance vehicle BRDM-KZ is equipped with one battlefield radar provides by the Turkish Company Aselsan. The vehicle is also fitted with the Turkish Aselsan SARP Stabilized Advanced Remote Weapon Platform armed with 12.7mm machine gun.

Through its extensive surveillance and remote control capabilities, SARP enhances situational awareness of the gunner in his proximity while the vulnerability to attacks is decreased drastically. The turret is equipped with day/night sight vision, laser range finder and computerized firing control system.
