Russian Western District commanders to study tank engagement


Battalion and squadron commanders of the combined arms army of the Western Military District will see modern tank engagement during a large-scale exercise at Pogonovo range in Voronezh region, the district said.

"The exercise of commanders began at the communications formation of the army. Training will be held for three days and will end with battalion tactical drills. Over 150 commanders of motorized infantry, tank, artillery, reconnaissance units will be acquainted with modern methods of motorized infantry and tank engagement in general combat according to the experience obtained in the Syrian Arab Republic," it said.

T-72B3 tanks will break through adversary frontline and hold live fire at a distance of 2,000 meters, and create conditions for motorized rifles to retreat and regroup. The exercise will culminate in live fire by "tank carousel" and "Syrian wall" methods, as well as from closed positions at major distances. Participants will train fire, drive infantry fighting vehicles and hold a complex exercise at over ten training sites.

Each battalion and squadron commander and their deputies will study all stages of personnel training, including materiel provision. Over 500 servicemen and over 120 pieces of arms and hardware will be engaged.
