Singapore Army unveils new tracked ARV Armoured Recovery Vehicle at Open House 2017.
During its Open House 2017, Singapore army has unveiled a new prototype of Armoured Recovery Vehicle (ARV) that will support the Next Generation of AFV (Armoured Fighting Vehicle). Both combat vehicles are under development by the Defence Science and Technology Agency and Singapore Technologies Kinetics, which was awarded the contract for the AFV by the Ministry of Defence in March.

The prototype of the new ARV (Armoured Recovery Vehicle) has a weight of around 29 tones with a length of 6.9 m. It has a crew of three including commander, a driver and an automotive specialist technician.
 
The ARV vehicle is fitted with a a knuckle-telescopic boom crane for lifting mounted at the front of the hull that can move 360 degrees and a front-oriented recovery winch with a stated maximum pull of 25.5 tones. It is also equipped with nine mounted cameras which provide all-round visual coverage for situational awareness and protection.
 

The front of the vehicle is fitted with a dozer blade. There is also duty tools and tows bars located on the side of the vehicle. When the crane is used, two hydraulic jacks are lowered on the ground to stabilize the vehicle.

For its self-protection, the vehicle is fitted with a small turret which can be armed with a light machine gun. The vehicle can uses the same chassis and suspension as the new Next Generation Armoured Fighting vehicle which was unveiled in June 2016. The suspension consists on each side of six dual rubber-tyred road wheels with the drive sprocket at the rear and the idler at the front.
