Swedish and US MoDs signed bilateral Statement of Intent
The Swedish and US Ministries of Defence signed a bilateral Statement of Intent on 8 June 2016. The aim of the initiative is to increase mutual cooperation and understanding between the two countries’ ministries, armed forces and defence agencies.

These efforts will focus in five key areas. These are:

  • Enhanced interoperability;
  • Increased capabilities and improvements in posture forged through training and exercises;
  • Further cooperation in research and development projects;
  • Deeper cooperation in the field of armaments and
  • Tackling common challenges in multinational operations.

The Swedish Defence Minister, Peter Hultqvist, stated that the Statement of Intent would build on the current activities between the two countries and set the priorities for new ones. The goal of Sweden and the US is to further develop their defence capabilities; their interoperability and ability to deploy together, Mr P. Hultqvist mentioned.
