According to our first analysis, the BTR-82A1 uses the same chassis as the BTR-82A but fitted with a new turret.

The BTR-82A1 is fitted with an unmanned turret which is controlled by the gunner and the commander from inside of the troop’s compartment. All ammunition and electro-optics are housed within the armor-protected turret.

Fully overhead with no deck penetration, the turrets do not compromise the vehicle’s armor protection and preserve existing space within the vehicle. In addition, the turrets provide enhanced situational awareness under closed hatches.

The turret is armed with a 30mm automatic gun coupled to a coaxial 7.62mm PKT light machine gun. A group of three smoke grenade launchers are mounted on each side at the front of the turret.
