On 30 June, at the request of the Minister of Defense Steven Vandeput, the Council of Ministers approved the launch of the tendering procedure to equip Special Operations Forces with 199 new armored Light Troop Transport Vehicles (LTTV). First deliveries are expected in 2019.

This purchase is part of the urgent renewal of the current Special Operations Forces vehicles (Unimog) that date back to the 1990s. In addition with the 108 Rapid Reaction vehicles (RRV) ordered in 2016, the LTTV and RVV will allow Belgian Special Forces to be deployed quickly and autonomously all-around the world by air with current "C-130" or future "A400M" and sea.

The purchase includes 199 standard platforms, including 175 mission modules that can be installed on the standard platform, as well as 42 ballistic kits. Multiple type of gun can be fitted on the LTTV (12.7mm and 7.62mm machine guns and 40mm) to enhance flexibility and to correspond mission requirement. An open multiannual technical assistance contract is included in the tender. An ambulance and para-commando ( with multiple versions) variants is also planned.

This quantity is defined according to units, commitments and in order to comply with the aspirations described in the strategic vision of the Defense.
