"The agreement affords us an extra resource for our air defense," Armenian Deputy Defense Minister Ara Nazaryan said.

"The conclusion of the agreement stems from the republic’s state and national interests," Armenian Parliament Vice-Speaker Eduard Sharmazanov noted. "Armenia is establishing a combined regional air defense system with a country maintaining old-time strategic allied relations with it." According to the vice-speaker, the relations have been successfully evolving in the arms supply and security spheres as well.

Armenian authorities regard the Russian military base and border guards stationed on Armenian soil as an important national security component.
