Germany has delivered security equipment to Jordan armed forces


The German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen was in Jordan, Sunday January 14, 2018, to participate on handover ceremony for the official delivery of training planes and dozens of military support vehicles Mercedes Benz to Jordan, worth a total of $22 million.

The military and security equipment delivered to the Jordanian armed forces includes two training aircraft worth €5 million and 70 trucks and 56 vans Mercedes Benz worth €13 million.

Germany's defense minister says during the ceremony, Germany would like to continue the support of Jordan's military with the delivery of modern military and security equipment to improve the Jordanian border surveillance.

Jordan, which borders Syria and Iraq, has been strongly involved with fight against the Islamic State andf Daesh. Since January 2017, Jordan is a partner in the U.S. led coalition against Islamist rebels battling the Islamic extremist group and conducted air strikes on IS inside Syria.

Jordan plays a prominent role in the U.S.led coalition against Islamic State, providing military, logistical and intelligence support.

In December 2015, Saudi Arabia has launched a Arab coalition including 34 Muslim nations to fight terrorism.

Since September 2014, the U.S. military has been the primary force leading the military campaign against ISIS. Around 80% of the coalition bombing has been by the United States, with some support from allies in Europe, plus Canada and Australia.
