Nexter Systems from France showcases its VBCI 8x8 Infantry Fighting Vehicle at IAV 2017 in London

Nexter’s offer its VBCI (IFV) for the MIV (Mechanised Infantry Vehicle) programme of the British army. Several international companies are candidates to provide the next generation of wheeled armoured combat vehicles for the British army including Finnish Company Patria with the Armoured Modular Vehicle (AMV) and the latest AMV XP variant, the French Company Nexter Systems VBCI, Singapore Technologies with the Kinetics Terrex 3, the German ARTEC Boxer, and General Dynamics (GD) with the Piranha 5 and General Dynamics Land Systems LAV. GD could also offers the Stryker double-V-hull (SDVH), the LAV 6.0 or the LAV 700 depending on the UK requirements.

The VBCI is a low-risk and cost effective solution. It represents an optimised balance between protection, mobility and growth potential and is designed to meet evolving operational challenges over the next 30 years. VBCI is a modern and combat proven MOTS (Military Off The Shelf) platform that entered service with the French Army in 2009.

Over 600 have been delivered, and VBCI has now earned an enviable reputation as the principal combat platform of the French Army during all its recent expeditionary campaigns. From Afghanistan to Mali, VBCI’s reliability, protection, mobility and crew comfort has been affirmed under the most demanding operational environments. As part of Operation SERVAL, VBCI spearheaded the projection of French Forces into MALI over 2,400 km in 4 days.

VBCI has been engineered from mature COTS (Commercial Off The Shelf) technologies to deliver inherent reliability, thereby maximising operational autonomy and minimising its cost of ownership.
