Russia is testing new anti-tank robotic based on BTR-MDM airborne armoured personnel carrier.
Russia is testing an antitank robotic system based on the BTR-MDM armored personnel carrier, Russian Airborne Force Commander Vladimir Shamanov said on Thursday, January 21, 2016.

"An antitank robotic system and medical vehicles based on the BTR-MDM Rakushka armored personnel carrier are currently undergoing trials," Shamanov said without specifying the timeframe when the military hardware would be developed.

As the Airborne Force commander said, a large number of vehicles are under development on the basis of the BTR-MDM armored personnel carrier.

The BTR-MDM is based on the BTR-MD Rakushka vehicle developed and manufactured by The Russian Defense Company JSC VgTZ Volgograd.

The Russian Airborne Forces received its first batch of serially produced BTR-MDM 'Rakushka' armoured personnel carriers on March 2015. The new APC is intended to transport airborne troops, marines, ammunition, spare parts, or fuel.

Currently, Russian Airborne troops use anti-tank combat vehicles based on the chassis of BTR-D armed with Fagot anti-tank missiles. A an upgrade version is also available which is armed with Kornet anti-tank missile system.

The BTR-RD is the a anti-tank missile carrier variant of the airborne armoured vehicle BTR-D family, which is the the standard armoured vehicle personnel carrier used by the Russian airborne troops (VDV).
     
The BTR-MD Rakushka is a Russian-made airborne multi-role armoured vehicle designed and manufactured by the Company VMK Volgogradsky Tractor Plant. The vehicle is based on the chassis of the airborne tracked armoured infantry fighting vehicle BMD-3, but without turret and with a bigger hull.
