The Russian arms export agency Rosoboronexport will provide the Indonesian defense department with 37 BMP-3F armoured infantry fighting vehicles. " The official ceremony for the delivery will be held on the polygon of Karang Tekok, a military base of the Indonesian Navy Marine Corps. The ceremony will be attended by the Indonesian Minister of Defense Purnomo Yusgiantoro ," said the official source.

In December 2012, Indonesia has ordered 37 BMP-3F amphibious armoured infantry fighting vehicles from Russia, in addition to the 17 ones already in service with the Marine Corps.

In 2009, Indonesian armed forces have ordered to Russia a first batch of 17 amphibious tracked armoured infantry fighting vehicles BMP-3F.

The BMP-3F is designed and manufactured by the Russian Defense Company Kurganmashzavod JSC. Like the standard BMP-3 IFV, this variant is fully amphibious and is propelled through the water at a maximum speed of up to 10 km/h by two water jets located on either side at the rear of the hull.

Indonesia is the first foreign customer for that type of amphibious infantry fighting vehicle.

The BMP-3F Marines fighting vehicle is based on the BMP-3 IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle) and intended to increase fire power, mobility and protection of the naval forces. The BMP-3F has been developed for use by naval infantry forces.

The complete weapon system of the BMP-3F is known as the 2K23 and consists of a 100 mm 2A70 gun, a 30 mm 2A72 coaxial cannon and a 7.62 mm PKT coaxial machine gun, all in a common mount.
