Russian Defence Minister agrees for production of 10 BMD-4M and 10 BTR-MD airborne armoured.
The first 10 airborne armoured infantry fighting vehicles BMD-4M will be delivered to the Airborne troops of Russian army for the second half of 2013, has announced in December 2012, the Airborne troops commander, General Colonel Vladimir Shamanov. The Russian Defence Minister has also agreed the production of 10 BMD-4M and 10 BTR-MD Rakushka for the first half of 2013 for the infantry units of Russian Navy.

The new BTR-MD Rakushka will become the standard airborne multi-role armoured vehicle for the Russian navy infantry units. There is also other prototype vehicles based on the BTR-MD, which are configured as NBC (Nuclear Bacteriologic Chemical) reconnaissance vehicle and ambulance for the battlefield.

The Russian airborne troops could be also equipped the intelligence and Special Forces troops with that type of vehicles.

The Russian Navy plans to test the new BMD-4M and the BTR-MD in the second half of 2013, to be adopted in service with the Russian armed forces.
