Description
The Badak is a Fire Support (FSV) wheeled armoured vehicle designed and manufactured in Indonesia by the Indonesian Company PT Pindad jointly with Belgian Company CMI Defence for the weapon systems. Pindad has responsibility to build a combat vehicle from its Anoa’s design modified by diesel engine 6 cylinder with 340 horse power, a monocoque body with special armor that could take up to 12.7 mm ammunition and double wishbone independent suspension technology to maintain vehicle stability in the even of firing its 90 mm cannon. CMI and Cockerill’s team main responsibility is developing turret with 90 mm cannon. The Badak was unveiled for the first time during the International Defence Exhibition Indodefence 2008. In January 2016, PT Pindad has announced the first production of the Badak FSV vehicle for the Indonesian army.

Armament
The Badak Fire Support Vehicle (FSV) is fitted with a Belgian-made CMI Defence's CSE-90 two-man turret. The CMI Defense CSE90 Weapon System is a two man turret especially designed to mount the Cockerill gun. Main armament of the CSE90 is the Cockerill Mk3 90 mm low pressure gun. The Cockerill CSE 90LP turret incorporates a Gunner’s day sight as standard, with night vision (image intensifying or thermal imaging) as an option. The weapon is aimed at target using an electro-mechanical gun and turret drive system. This permits fast movement of gun and turret during normal operation, and excellent slow-speed target-tracking for precision engagement. A laser range finder and ballistic computer permit precise target engagement. Second armament includes a 7.62mm coaxial machine gun mounted on the left of the main armament, with another 7.62mm machine gun mounted on the left side of the turret roof for use as anti-aircraft weapon or for close combat situation. A bank of four smoke-grenade discharger is mounted on each side at the front of the turret. The Cockerill Mk3 90 mm has a maximum firing range of 6,000 m and can fire a full range of ammunition as APFSDS-T (Armor Piercing Fin-stabilized Discarding Sabot Tracer), HEAT (High Explosive Anti-Tank), HE-T, and Canister (anti personnel).
Design and protection
The Badak 90mm fire support armoured vehicle uses a new design of all-welded monocoque steel hull based on the Anoa 2 armoured personnel carrier (APC). The all-welded monocoque steel hull of the Badak protects the crew from small arms fire (STANAG 4569 Level 3) and shell splinters and is divided into three compartments: power pack at the front, driving compartment at the right front of the hull and turret in the middle. The driver is seated at the front of the vehicle on the right side and has a single-piece hatch with three day vision periscopes. The Cockerill CSE 90LP two-man turret provides a basic protection against small arms firing 7.62mm NATO caliber STANAG 4569 Level 1 and to maximum STANAG 4569 Level 4 with ballistic protection against 25mm APDS-T (M791) or TLB 073 ammunitions at 500 meters with 1258 m/s. The rear part of the hull is fitted with two single doors which open on each side.
Mobility
The Badak 90mm fire support armoured vehicle is based on the Anoa 2 APC (Armoured Personnel Carrier) 6x6 wheeled chassis. The vehicle is motorized with a new 340 hp power pack located at the front left of the hull. The engine is coupled to an fully automatic transmission with 6 forward and 1 reverse gear. The suspension also utilizes double wishbone independent suspension for better stability while firing the 90mm canon. The vehicle can run at a maximum road speed of 90 km/h with a maximum cruising range of 600 km. The vehicle is able to negotiate slopes up to 60°, side slopes to 30° and natural and engineered trenches of 0.75m maximum. It can ford through water up to a depth of 1 m without preparation.
Accessories
Standard equipment of the Badak 90mm fire support armoured vehicle includes VHF/HF radio communication system, intercom, air conditioning, heater, GPS and navigation system. The rear part of the turret is fitted with a stowage basket. There is a small scale at the front right side of the hull.
