Russian Defence Industry proposes to Indonesia a concept of integrated air defence system based on the Buk-M2E medium-range air defence missile systems and Pantsir-S1 short-range air defence gun/missile systems. Russian experts believe that the system in such configuration will be able to effectively protect country's vital military and administrative installations from all existing air attack weapons of potential enemy, including from massive air strikes.

The Buk-M2E (NATO name SA-17 Grizzly) is a russian made mobile medium-range surface-to-air missile (SAM) system designed to defend field troops and logistical installations against air threats. SA-17 Grizzly is an upgraded version of the proven Buk-M1 mobile air defense system and retains its main features. It defeats strategic and tactical aircraft, tactical ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, air-launched missiles, guided aerial bombs and helicopters, including hovering rotorcraft, in the presence of heavy electronic countermeasures and under intense enemy fire.

The Pantsir-S1 (SA-8 Greyhound NATO code name) is an air defense missile-gun system designed to protect vital small-size and big military areas, industrial targets and land forces units and reinforced the air defense units responsible for the protection of troops and military installations against precision-guided air attack from low and extreme low altitudes. The mobile version of the Pantsir-S1 system includes a combat vehicle ( up to six vehicles in a battery), surface-to-air guided missiles, 30 mm rounds, a transporter-loader vehicle (one per two combat vehicles), maintenance and training facilities.
