Russia launchs massive strategic wargames Vostok-2014
A large-scale Russian strategic military exercise, codenamed Vostok-2014 started in eastern Russia on Friday, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. The maneuvers will take place on the island of Sakhalin, the Kamchatka Peninsula, Chukotka, and the southern part of the Primorsky Territory (Russian Far East).
     
A large-scale Russian strategic military exercise, codenamed Vostok-2014 started in eastern Russia on Friday, according to the Russian Defense Ministry. The maneuvers will take place on the island of Sakhalin, the Kamchatka Peninsula, Chukotka, and the southern part of the Primorsky Territory (Russian Far East).
Vostok-14 military drills involve about 100,000 servicemen and 1,500 armored vehicles
     
"About 100,000 servicemen, up to 1,500 tanks, 120 aircraft, 5,000 pieces of weaponry, military and special hardware, and 70 ships will take part in the exercises," the ministry said.

The Vostok 2014 strategic command-and-staff drill will be held at over 20 ground, sea and air ranges of the Eastern Military District on the territory from Anadyr to Vladivostok. There will be operative episodes practicing defense of the coastline and insular zone and joint operations of ground and seaborne forces at ranges of the Island of Sakhalin, the Kamchatka and Chukchi Peninsulas, southern parts of the Primorsky territory and sea ranges in the Kamchatka and Primorsky territories. Formations and military units will practice the relocation of troops to designated areas and their interaction within combined armed forces. There will be live fire exercises involving operative-tactical missile systems and land-, sea- and air-based cruise missiles.

The exercise is due to end on September 25.
