IAG Guardian APC 4x4 armoured personnel carrier combat-proven by Kurdish armed forces in Iraq.
The editorial team of International Online Defense and Security magazine Army Recognition has the chance to perform a test drive of the latest variant of IAG Guardian 4x4 Armoured Personnel Carrier in the desert of UAE (United Arab Emirates). The Guardian is an armored personnel carrier designed and manufactured at the factory of the Company IAG (International Armored Group) located in United Arab Emirates.

During the test drive, the Guardian has showed an excellent mobility in the desert. The Guardian provides a high level of ballistic and blast resistance, superior handling and off-road capability and commercial part compatibility resulting in low maintenance costs.

The large windscreen at the front and the bulletproof windows on each side provide excellent visibility for the crew and soldiers from inside the vehicle. To improve the security of the vehicle, four external cameras are mounted on the body, one each side of the hull with a color screen inside the crew compartment. The screen can display four camera views simultaneously, using a split screen display or full screen view from the selected cameras.

The Guardian is equipped with open top turret with armour plates on 360° mounted in the center of the crew compartment. The turret can be armed with a 7.62mm or 12.7mm machine gun. There is also a single hatch in the roof and various weapon station options are available. These range from a simple pintle mounted 7.62 mm machine gun up to a remote weapon station armed with a 7.62 mm or 12.7 mm machine gun which can be aimed and fired from within the safety of the vehicle.

The mechanical components such as the suspension and braking systems have been tuned for off-road handling as well as to support the fully loaded armor weight. The high capacity wheel and tire assembly also features a built-in run-flat and bead lock system.

The Guardian is now combat-proven and used by the Kurdish armed forces against ISIL fighters in Iraq. According representatives of IAG more vehicles will be delivered to the Kurdish forces in the next few weeks.
