The ALTV Torpedo is light fast attack vehicle developed and designed by the French Defence manufacturer Acmat. The vehicle is intended to reconnaissance units and Special Forces which are often confronted to conduct combat missions in desert and all-terrain environments, with the ALTV Torpedo the French Company ACMAT offers a new solution of Fast Attack Vehicle which can be used for that type of combat mission with high mobility, cargo capacity and fire power. The ALTV Torpedo was unveiled at DSEI 2011 defence exhibition in London, September 2011. The ALTV Torpedo is based on the chassis of the standard ALTV version but the crew cab is removed and the vehicle has an open-top. The ALTV Torpedo is designed to provide reconnaissance and Special Forces units with a real off-road patrol and fire-support vehicle with increased performance, supplementing the standard light tactical vehicle which previously fulfilled the role. With a top speed of up to 160 km/h and it's high off-road mobility, the ALTV Torpedo can be classified as Fast Attack vehicle. |
Armament | The ALTV Torpedo is open-topped with a 360° ring-mounted built into the tubular turn-over cage which can be armed with 7.62 or 12.7 mm machien gun or 40 mm automatic greande launcher. A light machine gun swivel station is available at the front of the commander seat position. More light machine gun swivel stations can be added at the rear of the troop's compartment. | Design and Protection | The ALTV Torpedo is based on the chassis of the standard version of ALTV, but the crew cab is removed to be replaced by a tubular frame roll-bar. With the roof removed front and rear, the ALTV Torpedo provides an excellent 360° visibility. In this manner, the soldiers at the rear could stand up to observe or engage hostile targets with the main machine gun. This would also allow for shooting to the rear in a pursuit situation. The ALTV Torpedo has a low-profile which reduces its detection, a real benefit for Special Forces and reconnaissance units. The ALTV Torpedo has only minimal armour but provides aluminum protection under the chassis against mine Level 1 STANAG 4569. The crew cab has a single windscreen which can be folded forward on the bonnet. The cargo area at the rear of the chassis can be fitted with 2 x 2-seater benches with a maximum payload of 1,400 kg. | Propulsion | For high mobility, the ALTV Torpedo is motorized with a 2.5-litre Turbo Diesel engine developing 190 hp at 4,000 rpm. The vehicle can reach a maximum road speed of 160 km/h with a maximum range of 1,600 km without refueling. The ALTV Torpedo uses a 4x4 chassis with independent double-wishbone with coil-over shock for the front suspension and rigid axle with multi-leaves springs for the rear suspension. | Accessories | In option the ALTV Torpedo can be fitted with 24-volt pre-equipment for radio communication systems. A self-recovery electric winch of 3,800 kg pulling force can be added at the front of the chassis. | | Specifications | Back to top | Armament | One 360° ring-mounted for 7.62 or 12.7 mm machine gun or 40 mm grenade launcher, one swivel station for 7.62 or 5.56 mm machine gun | Country users | France | Designer Company | ACMAT | Accessories | Tyres runflat, front electric winch, blackout lights function, 24 volt communication pre-equipment kit | Crew | 3 + 4 soldiers | | Armor | Anti-mine protection Level 1 a a | Weight | 3,500 kg | Speed | 160 km/h | Range | 1,600 km a | Dimensions | Lenght, 5,3 m; Width, 1,9 m; Height, 1,77 m | | | | |
